Choosing a contractor
What reviews tell you, and what they do not
Reviews are strong evidence of some things and weak evidence of others. Knowing which is which saves time on every company you look at, not only this one.
They are good evidence of behaviour. Whether a company turned up when it said it would, explained the problem in language you could follow, and charged at the end what it quoted at the start. Customers are well placed to judge all of that, and it is most of what goes wrong with contractors.
They are weak evidence of technical work. A homeowner generally cannot tell whether a system was charged by weight to manufacturer specification, whether static pressure was measured, or whether a replacement coil was properly matched to the outdoor unit. A five-star review can sit on top of a poor installation for years, right up until the day it fails.
So read reviews for the behaviour, and use the three checks on the right for the rest.
Check the company yourself
Four things worth doing before letting any contractor into your house.
- Read both profiles in full, including anything critical and how it was answered
- Verify the TDLR licence through the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation licence search
- Confirm the address is real. Ours is 13000 Murphy Rd #116, Stafford, TX 77477
- Call and listen. Whether the answer sounds like diagnosis or like a script tells you a great deal
